What is Climate Careers program and Green House Calls?
Climate Careers program, in operation since 2000, is a highly innovative youth employment and empowerment program, addressing climate change by providing valuable no-cost services to thousands of local residents each year. This is accomplished by training and employing local youth in the Bay Area and Central Valley and putting them to work providing Green House Call service to local residents. The program serves all residents, regardless of income, renter, or owner status.
The best part? It won’t cost you anything. Really.

What to expect on a Green House Call
When you sign up for a Green House Call, two trained youth Energy Specialists will be sent to your home to check for
- resource conservation opportunities
- install new equipment to help you save energy, water, and money
- give you personalized recommendations for even more savings
The youth Energy Specialists install equipment as needed, such as energy-efficient light bulbs, high-efficiency faucet aerators for bath and kitchen, shower heads, and more – all at absolutely no cost to the resident.

Since our founding in 1994, we have grown the size of our investment in the community, and each year we have seen a greater impact. To date, Rising Sun has trained more than 2,427 youth and 900 adults and served 46,000 Bay Area households with energy and water saving measures. Through these activities, we have saved California residents over $22 million in energy costs and kept 138 million kilowatt hours of electricity and over 3.7 million natural gas therms from being used. Those energy savings have saved enough energy to power over 17,000 homes for one year.
