Crew members are raising water valve boxes after a recent paving job at Mesa Ridge Drive and Golf Course Road. Water valve boxes are covered in asphalt during the paving process. After the paving job is complete, our Water Distribution crews raise the valve boxes to street grade. This work must be performed quickly after a paving job because we use these valves to control water distribution to our neighborhoods. Raising a valve box begins with crews jackhammering the old asphalt and concrete, then bringing the valve box up to grade with the asphalt in the street.
The last step for our Water Distribution crew is to re-concrete the valve box in place. After the valve box has been successfully raised, the Street Maintenance crews repave the area around the valve boxes with permanent asphalt.
