Opening Day for Jr. Giants was a huge success with more than 450 participants that came out to learn baseball, meet new friends, and enjoyed a fun day of being active. Thank you to all the volunteer coaches, and parent volunteers, that dedicate so much time to make sure kids get an exceptional baseball experience. Another big thank you to Antioch Police Activities League for sponsoring our local Antioch Jr. Giants program.
The Junior Giants is a free, non-competitive, co-ed baseball and softball program that serves over 24,000 players in 90 leagues across California, Oregon, and Nevada. The program covers the cost of uniforms, equipment, coaching and program incentives. The program has also played an important piece of the youth sports community in the city of Antioch.
What is Junior Giants
The Junior Giants is a program that stems from the Giant’s Community Fund, in conjunction with the Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities Program. The program brings Junior Giants staff together to bring sports to community youth. The program, in fact, does more than just bring baseball and softball to the community, the program brings in character development, programs in health, education, and bullying prevention. The idea is not just to bring sports to the community, but to give kids the tools to become leaders, build successful lives, and have fun!
Opening day of the Junior Giants program is always an event. Kids are excited to get the day underway and parents are optimistic about the learning and fun. Each week of play means the introduction of a new character building word. After kids are introduced into the program, concepts they are introduced to, through coaching and training include: health, strike out bullying, education, confidence, teamwork, leadership, and integrity.
