Lieutenant Tarra Mendes, Councilwoman Monica Wilson, Councilwomen Lori Ogorchock, Environmental Resource Coordinator Julie Haas-Wajdowicz, Explorers Haley Gomez, and Jahlaya Tidwell, along with other local women leaders attended the Day of Empowering Girls event on Tuesday October 16th. The program is designed to bring together young women to build community while connecting students to inspiring women leaders. Lieutenant Mendes answered questions from the attendees regarding her experience and success as a leader in law enforcement. Other panelists provided insight into how they also became successful in their respective fields of work. Our Explorers were on hand as examples of how young women are becoming more involved in law enforcement and developing leadership skills at an early age through the police department. The event was well attended and enjoyed by the young ladies who will be leading us in the future.
