On May 9th, three members of Deer Valley High School were recognized by the Jefferson Awards Foundation for their individual contributions to our community. The Jefferson Award Foundation were founded in 1972 by Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, to power others to have maximum impact on the things they care about most through public service. Every year, they recognize the unsung heroes of local communities for the work they do to make our world a better place- one person at a time.
Kim Bonney, Program Manager of the Jefferson Awards Foundation was on site at Deer Valley High School to recognize and deliver the awards Wednesday afternoon.
Ala Rahman (Class of 2019) was recognized for her volunteer service. As President of the Key Club and Historian of CSF, Ala has proved a leader within DV and our greater community. She has been a part of various awareness walks and volunteer programs.
Cayden Minyard (Class of 2018) has helped her community through her work volunteering with the Foster care program RFK (Royal Family Kids), working with special needs kids through the Unified Soccer program at DV, and volunteering at her church with teen MOPS. Her time has been well spent in the service of those who most appreciate it.
Sheryl Wayne (School Office Assistant II, DV Main Office) for many years has used her incredible sewing skills to serve her community. At Deer Valley, Sheryl has made the garters for homecoming court as well as our office ta’s. She has made pillows for students who participated in the Every 15 minute program and spirt wear for our foundation dinner. In addition, she has provided at no cost alterations for foster kids and others in need for their prom gowns. Her extra touches make our events that extra bit special for everyone.
Please join us in congratulating these recipients of the Jefferson Awards Foundation!
