Although our Antioch Police Department spend most of their days keeping our city safe, they often take time out of their busy schedule to interact with the community.
- They Attend Career Fairs
- They are Paramedics, EMTs and Nurses
- They interact with Elementary school children
- They collaborate with officers in neighboring cities
- They help raise money to help the community
- They organize neighborhood clean ups and collect garbage on their day off
Officer Bledsoe and Explorers Gomez, Tidwell, and Quintanilla participated in Antioch High School’s Career Day. Officer Bledsoe answered questions from students regarding the education and training necessary to become a police officer. The Explorers talked to students and answered questions about the Explorer Program. They explained how the program provides relevant police experiences and better prepares young adults to work in the law enforcement field. There was a lot of interest from attendees and it was a great opportunity for AHS Students and APD staff.
Before they were police,Officers Bedgood, Blumberg, Downie, Hamilton, and Hulleman were all paramedics and/or EMT’s. Officer Gerber was a Registered Nurse. Many of these Officers maintain their credentials and can provide medical aid above and beyond a typical police officer. This is just another example the wide range of experience and training our officers have and use in service of our community.
The City of Antioch Neighborhood Cleanup program organized by the Antioch Police Department took place earlier this month. The cleanup is a collaborative community effort which involves active participation from The Antioch Police Department Crime Prevention Commission; Neighborhood Watch Program; Volunteers in Police Service; community volunteers and the Public Works Department.
Collectively, “We”, everyone who works and lives in the City Antioch, can make a difference and improve the quality of life. It’s our community and it’s our chance to make a difference. The City of Antioch Neighborhood Cleanup program is not just for residential neighborhoods. It is a program that will change venues on a monthly basis and it will include business and commercial areas as well. Neighborhoods that are free of trash and refuse are inviting, and a clean community instills a sense of community pride.
Ofc. McDonald, his partner, K9 “Leroy,” Ofc. Fachner and K9 “Kane,” and Ofc. Ramirez and his K9 “Enzo,” all took time out of their training day to do a short presentation to kindergarteners at Kimball Elementary. As the class is split with English and Spanish-speaking students, Ofc. Ramirez provided the information to students in both languages so all students could enjoy the day and learn a little bit about the Antioch Police Department K9 program.
Antioch, Brentwood, and Pittsburg traffic officers collaborated with Stanley Roberts from KRON 4 News looking for “drivers behaving badly”.
The Antioch Police Department SWAT Team conducted a proactive enforcement detail around the City of Antioch. The team managed to make numerous arrests, but they still found time to stop and play with the kids they came across.
During this detail, the team members passed out police badge stickers and police trading cards. They were even able to play catch with some kids and managed to get involved in a water balloon fight along the way.
The members of the Antioch Police Department always love to interact with the kids when we’re able to……..and really……who doesn’t love a good water balloon fight?
The Antioch Police Department’s Records Bureau wanted to do something to try and make back to school a little easier for students in the community. For the past month, APD’s records staff worked diligently to raise enough money, including a contribution from the Antioch Police Officer’s Association, and generous contributions from Police Department personnel and City Hall. A little over $400 was collected which enabled them to prepare 30 backpacks filled with grade appropriate school items.
So the next time you see an Antioch Police Department Officer or Personnel, give them a high-five or a “thank you” for all that they do.
