EBRP Antioch Coal Mine Exhibit

Grand Opening of Coal Mine Exhibit

Along with Mayor Pro Tem Wilson and Council Member Ogorchock, I attended the grand opening of the East Bay Regional Park District Black Diamond Coal Mine Exhibit located at the south end of Somersville Road. The exhibit gives us a glimpse into the life of a miner in the late 19th century when the coal mines were in full operation and a vital industry to our region.

East Bay Regional Park District put a tremendous amount of work into building the replica coal mine underground. Public tours are now available for registration! This is a great opportunity for families and friends to experience the mines up close and in person.

Tours must be pre-registered, masks are required, and space is limited to meet all COVID health guidance.
Tours cost $3 per person, and participants must be 7+ years old.

Coal Mine Exhibit (May-June)

Pinging pick-ax’s, clattering coal carts, and dialogue in the dark. Experience the sights and sounds that were once common here in the Mt. Diablo Coal Field. This guided experience brings you into a re-created coal mine, as we experience them working as they were during the 19th century.

All participants must be age 7 or older, and parent participation is required. Hard hats are provided. Please bring a jacket; you will be underground in the mine, where temperatures are in the mid-50’s year-round.

30 minute tours are available every Saturday and Sunday at 10:30am, 11:30am, 12:30pm, 2:00pm and 3:00pm. Please be sure to select the correct date and time.
