Along with Mayor Wright, Council Member Wilson, Chief Brooks, Parks and Recreation Director Kaiser, the Antioch Police Department SWAT Team and City Manager Ron Bernal participated in the 4th Annual Rotary Bunny Hop 5K held at the Dow Wetlands west of the Antioch Marina. It was another amazing day of Antioch fun and beauty. Thank you Mayor Pro Tem Motts and the rest of the afternoon Rotary Club for hosting this wonderful event!
Antioch Rotary Club raised over $13,000 from the Bunny Hop for high school scholarships in our community.
About Dow Wetlands
Located along a scenic stretch of land on the San Joaquin River. Established in 1989, Dow Wetlands Wildlife Habitat Preserve is a 470 acre wildlife preserve provides important tidal and upland marsh habitat for over 120 species of birds, amphibians, reptiles, and mammals in an area.
Holds easy walking trails, beaver ponds, tidal wetlands, and marsh areas. The Dow Wetland Preserve is also located near the Kirker Creek Watershed in east Contra Costa County. It’s a beautiful area that is home to many different species of birds. You will find benches around the ponds and enjoy viewing decks and watch the wildlife mostly birds, beavers, otters, turtles & more. The area, located along the San Joaquin River east of the San Francisco Bay, contains tideland marsh and upland grass areas rich in wildlife and natural vegetation. The preserve has more than 170 acres of freshwater/brackish tidal marsh plus a 30-acre beaver pond, freshwater ponds, open water, mudflats, riparian zones, uplands, and grasslands.
About the Bunny Hop 5k
Take a .75 mile beautiful walk from the Antioch Marina to Dow Wetlands to start your 5K race. The race is on a soft trail through Dow wetlands. When you run by the beaver pond you will have a spectacular view of the Mt. Diablo in its background. There will be live enthusiastic entertainers from the local high schools. When you finish your race return to the Antioch Marina to receive your ribbon and enjoy the activities. There will be medals for the top 3 participants in each age group.  Plaques for the top overall male and female runners. There will also be a short bunny hop dash for kids 6 and under.  Antioch Rotary Club has a lot of service projects for our local community.
